I am a Platypus

I have a combination of interests, skills, and projects that don't seem to go together and add up to anything coherent. I love coding, but I don't do it for a living or have any kind of computer science background. I like meeting people online, but I can't stand big social media. I enjoy writing and drawing, but my skills are far from professional level. My favorite things to do involve some combination of writing, drawing, crafting, or playing music.

Basically, I'm a platypus.

I'm lucky enough to have a full time job that gives me weekends off. In America in the 2020s, that's saying something. I occasionally feel guilty about not trying to get to the "next level" professionally. A good friend of mine pointed out that there's nothing I pursue as far as hobbies go that won't help me in my "regular" job. Sometimes, it takes years for the dots to connect, but they always do.

I decided, in 2023, that I missed having a quirky creative outlet. I decided to revisit my childhood love of making cute websites and graphics for no reason other than I can. I miss the days when the Internet felt more like a gigantic and extremely weird art project. I will never get over the way influencer and hustle culture has killed earnest and sincere creative projects.

I also think that the future is only going to get more, for lack of a better word, techie. Getting back into practice with HTML, CSS, and Javascript can only help me.
